Weekend Box Office Results (May 8 – May 10)

Without blinking an eye, Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron stayed in the number 1 position this week, adding another $77.7 million to its domestic total. This gives it $313.4 million for a domestic total and a worldwide total of $875.8 million. Rapidly coming in on the $1 billion mark, but whether it will top Furious 7 for the year is still yet to be determined.

New this week at number 2 is the Reese Witherspoon and Sofia Vergara comedy, Hot Pursuit, bringing in just $13.9 million in its opening weekend.

Holding at number 3 is the Blake Lively and Harrison Ford movie, Age of Adaline with $5.8 million, bringing its domestic total to $31.7 million.

At number 4 is the car action franchise, Furious 7, bringing in an additional $5.4 million. This raises its domestic total to $338.5 million, and its worldwide total to $1.46 billion, making this the number 1 movie for the year so far.

Hanging in there to take the number 5 spot is the Kevin James sequel, Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2, making $5.3 million with a domestic total of $58.1 million.

Expect to see some movies drop off this week as two big movies are entering the ring. The mad one returns in Mad Max: Fury Road, and the musical comedy sequel, Pitch Perfect 2. Both of these have the possibility of doing some damage to the top 5, but none of them will dethrone the current number 1 this week.
