Weekend Box Office Results (May 8 – May 10)

Without blinking an eye, Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron stayed in the number 1 position this week, adding another $77.7 million to its domestic total. This gives it $313.4 million for a domestic total and a worldwide total of $875.8 million. Rapidly coming in on the $1 billion mark, but whether it will top Furious 7 for the year is still yet to be determined.

New this week at number 2 is the Reese Witherspoon and Sofia Vergara comedy, Hot Pursuit, bringing in just $13.9 million in its opening weekend.

Holding at number 3 is the Blake Lively and Harrison Ford movie, Age of Adaline with $5.8 million, bringing its domestic total to $31.7 million.

At number 4 is the car action franchise, Furious 7, bringing in an additional $5.4 million. This raises its domestic total to $338.5 million, and its worldwide total to $1.46 billion, making this the number 1 movie for the year so far.

Hanging in there to take the number 5 spot is the Kevin James sequel, Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2, making $5.3 million with a domestic total of $58.1 million.

Expect to see some movies drop off this week as two big movies are entering the ring. The mad one returns in Mad Max: Fury Road, and the musical comedy sequel, Pitch Perfect 2. Both of these have the possibility of doing some damage to the top 5, but none of them will dethrone the current number 1 this week.

Weekend Box Office Results (May 1 – May 3)

BOOM goes the dynamite! The only question going in to this weekend was how much money was it going to actually make, and now we have the answer. Taking number 1 this week is Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron, making a staggering $187.6 million dollars in its opening weekend. What is even more astounding to me is that the first Avengers movie still holds the top record for largest opening weekend with $207.4 million. The question will be whether or not Age of Ultron has less of a drop off from week one to week two, as Avengers had a 50.3% drop between weeks. If Age of Ultron can reduce that number, it still has the ability to top the first movie. Regardless of that, it is fairly certain that this movie will join the billion dollar club when it is all said and done.

The shocker for me this week was a movie that has managed to climb up the charts from number 3 to number 2, and that is Age of Adaline, starring Blake Lively and Harrison Ford. Age of Adaline made $6.2 million this weekend bringing its total to $23.4 million.

At number 3, down from number 1, is the current reigning and defending champion for best box office of the year, Furious 7, making an additional $6.1 million, bringing its domestic total to $330.5 million, and its world-wide box office to $1.4 billion. Only time will tell if any movie has what it takes to topple it. I have a feeling something will ‘awaken’ in December to take it down.

At number 4 this week is the Kevin James movie, Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 making an additional $5.5 million and bringing its domestic total to $51.1 million.

And at number 5 this week, down from number 4, and marking its 6th week in the top 5, is the animated movie, Home, with Jim Parsons and Rihanna, making $3.3 million and bringing its domestic total to $158.1 million.

Is there anything in the near future that will be able to stop the juggernaut that is Avengers: Age of Ultron?

Weekend Box Office Results (Apr 24 – Apr 26)

For its fourth straight, and final week, Furious 7 has ended up in the number 1 slot as it took in $18.2 million, bringing its domestic total to $320.5 million and its worldwide release total to $1.3 Billion. And although Furious 7 has completely dominated the box office the last 4 weeks, I am pretty confident that at least one of the many movies coming out next week will finally knock it off its pedestal.

Holding strong at number 2 this week is the horribly reviewed, but still making money as it seems everybody likes to watch a fat guy fall down, is Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2, with $15.5 million, and bringing its total to $43.9 million.

Jumping in to number 3 on the charts is the Blake Lively film about a woman who doesn’t grow old, The Age of Adaline, taking in $13.3 million in its opening week.

Staying at number 4 this week is the Fox Studios animated flick, Home, about a lovable alien voiced by Jim Parsons trying to help a little girl find her Mother.

And dropping to number 5 this week from number 3 is the one screen horror flick, Unfriended. No, this isn’t a movie about what happens to people when somebody unfriends them on Facebook, although that might be something to work on. No, this is a cross between the found footage films like Blair Witch, and campy horror films like I Know What You Did Last Summer, and then given a more modern twist. In this case, it is online. Unfriended did $6.2 million, giving it a domestic total of $25.1 million.

There is only one wide release movie coming out this week, as nobody else dare to release for fear of making no money what-so-ever in the theaters. Avengers: Age of Ultron, the sequel to the wildly successful 2012 Avengers ($623.3 million domestic, $1.5 billion worldwide) opens this week and is going to thoroughly destroy every other movie out at the time.

Top 5 Predictions

1. Avengers: Age of Ultron

2. Furios 7

3. Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2

4. The Age of Adaline

5. Home

Weekend Box Office Results (Apr 10 – Apr 12)

This week was almost a complete bust this week, so lets just jump in to the top 5 this weekend.

MV5BMTQxOTA2NDUzOV5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTgwNzY2MTMxMzE@._V1_SX640_SY720_

In an absolute shocker (to absolutely no one), Furious 7 reigns as king of the hill again this week, making $29 million, bringing its domestic total to $294.4 million and making it the first movie this year to break the $1 billion barrier worldwide with $1.15 BILLION worldwide, and surpassing the number 1 movie for all of 2014, Transformers 4: Age of Extinction.

And this is just the START of the Summer Movie Season. We still have Avengers: Age of Ultron, Jurassic World, Hunger Games, and a little movie called Star Wars: The Force Awakens, to name just a few.

Jumping in at number 2 this week is the Kevin James comedy, Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 with $24 million, proving once again that inept, fat guys, falling down and hurting themselves make for good comedy.

We get surprised at number 3 as the horror flick, Unfriended, jumped on the charts with its opening week with $16 million. I’m sure that Universal are excited for this number as it was a very low-budget film to make by the looks of it. Can you say sequel?

At number 4, falling from number 2, is the animated flick Home, with $10.3 million, bringing its domestic total to $142.6 million. Admit it, that damn alien was too cute. I’ve heard some complaints from people that they didn’t see any advertisements for it. I think those people don’t have kids, or the kids aren’t watching any broadcast television, because I saw advertisements all the time for it. Or maybe I just watch too much television.

And at number 5, screw you to everybody that saw it and everybody that took their significant other to see it, is The Longest Ride, making $6.8 million on its domestic total of $23.5 million. Please, let this be the end, if I have to type The Longest Ride one more time, it will be too much. If I ever see another Nicholas Sparks movie on the movie list, it will be too soon.

And now that I look at last weeks predictions, it doesn’t look like it was THAT bad. I got the number 1 and number 5 dead on the nose, while I got Home and Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 on the list. I missed with putting Monkey Kingdom on the list instead of Unfriended.

Only two wide release movies this week, that being The Age Of Adaline, and Little Boy, neither of which is going to make dent into what is your number 1 movie next week.

Top 5 Predictions

1. Furious 7

2. Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2

3. Unfriended

4. Home

5. The Age of Adaline

Weekend Box Office Results (Apr 10 – Apr 12)

I managed to get all the top 5 movies correct this week, but missed on the order. Please, stop seeing Nicholas Sparks shit! Anyways…

MV5BMTQxOTA2NDUzOV5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTgwNzY2MTMxMzE@._V1_SX640_SY720_

In something that was a shocker to almost nobody, Furious 7 remained in the top spot this week making $60.5 million, bringing its domestic total to $252.5 million. It seems that every year, the start of the summer blockbuster movies comes sooner and sooner, and this looks like it might be the start for this year. Expect this movie to continue to dominate next week as well.

Staying at number 2 this week is the animated movie, Home, with $19 million, bringing its domestic total to $129.5 million, just short of its production budget. Timing is everything in this movie as it was released in time for kids on their spring break.

Jumping into number 3 is The Longest Ride, another Nicholas Sparks movie that tells the same story as every other Nicholas Sparks movie, and made $13.5 million.

Dropping from number 3 to number 4 is the buddy comedy Get Hard, starring Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart, making $8.6 million with a domestic total of $71.2 million. While not a great movie, with only a budget of $40 million, I would consider this movie a success.

And at number 5 this week is the Disney Live Action adaptation of Cinderella. Cinderella made $7.2 million, bringing its domestic total to a very successful 180.7 million.

Plenty of competition this week as we have a sequel, a Disney documentary, a mystery thriller, a drama, and a horror film all opening this week.

Top 5 Predictions

1. Furious 7

2. Home

3. Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2

4. Monkey Kingdom

5. The Longest Ride

Weekend Box Office Results (Apr 3 – Apr 5)

Man, what a week. I guessed somewhere around the $116 million for Furious 7, and it blows through that and does $143.6 million. This movie is a juggernaut, almost besting the year to date total of the other Universal movie this year, 50 Shades of Grey and its $165.4 million. And this is just the opening weekend.

MV5BMTQxOTA2NDUzOV5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTgwNzY2MTMxMzE@._V1_SX640_SY720_

Dropping one spot to number 2 this week is the animated movie, Home, making another $27.4 million and bringing its total to $95.6

Also dropping one spot to number 3 this week is the Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart comedy, Get Hard, making $12.9 million and bringing its total to $57 million.

Staying firm at number 4 this week is the Disney Live Action Cinderella, with a strong $10.2 million and bringing its total to $167.2 million.

And falling from number 3 to number 5 this week is The Divergent Series: Insurgent. This sequel brought in $10 million to increase its domestic total to $103.3 million.

Two new releases this week, the Nicholas Sparks movie, The Longest Ride and the Sci-Fi Drama Ex Machina, neither of which I believe is going to be able to knock off our current number. Of the two, I believe only The Longest Ride is going to be able to break the top 5, even with Ex Machina winnning a Jury Prize from the Gérardmer Film Festival this year.

Top 5 Predictions:

1. Furious 7

2. Home

3. Get Hard

4. The Longest Ride

5. Cinderella

Weekend Box Office Results (Mar 27 – Mar 29)

Only got 4 of the top 5 predictions right this week, but I did manage to nail the number 1 movie of the week.

At number 1, as expected, is the animated movie Home, making $52.1 million dollars in its opening week. Home features the voices of Jim Parsons, Rihanna, Steve Martin, and Jennifer Lopez. With spring break around the corner for most kids, I see this movie hanging around the top 5 for a couple of weeks.

home_xlg

Surprising me at number 2 this week is Get Hard starring Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart, making $33.9 million. On only a $40 million budget, this movie might move into the sequel range. Get Harder anybody?

Dropping from 1 to 3 this week is The Divergent Series: Insurgent with $21.5 million, bringing its domestic total to $85.8 million.

Also dropping at number 4 is Disney’s live action Cinderella with $17 million and making a total of $149.5 million domestically.

The surprise this week and finally dropping Kingsman: The Secret Service from the top 5 (it’s now number 6), is It Follows with $3.8 million and a total of $4.5 million. It Follows, which opened in only 4 theaters in its first week and 32 theaters in its second week, is now in over 1200 theaters in its third week, and has been climbing every week because of this.

This week will see only one movie get released, and with good reason as nobody wants to attempt to go up against Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Jason Statham, The Rock, and the rest of the crew in Furious 7.

Top 5 Predictions:

1. Furious 7

2. Home

3. Get Hard

4. Insurgent

5. Cinderella

Weekend Box Office Results (Mar 20 – Mar 22)

Not as impressive as last week, but I did manage to get all of the top 5 correct, just not in the right order.

There is a new number 1 this week and that is Insurgent. Insurgent, the sequel to the 2014 movie Divergent, made $54 million in its opening weekend. I think it is safe to say that fans of the series made a run of it this weekend, but based off the reviews that are coming in, there will probably be a significant drop off on this movie next week.

Insurgent

At number 2 is last weeks number 1, the Disney live-action movie, Cinderella. Cinderella made an additional $34.4 million bringing it’s total after two weeks to $122 million.

At number 3 is the disappointing Liam Neeson film, Run All Night, with an additional $5.1 million, bringing its total to $19.7 million.

Debuting at number 4 is the widely criticized Sean Penn action flick, The Gunman, making just $5 million on its opening weekend.

And still hanging around after 6 weeks is Kingman: The Secret Service, making an addition $4.6 million and bringing its domestic total to $114.5 million. The staying power of this film continues to show how good the movie is and how well word of mouth is working for it. For comparison, the other big movie that came out the same week as Kingman, was Fifty Shades of Grey, which is currently sitting in 14th. And think of all the movies that have come out after Kingsman, which are free-falling off the charts. This movie is still here, and my guess is that is will be here again next week.

This week will see the release of the Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart comedy, Get Hard, and the kids animated movie, Home.

Top 5 Predictions:

1. Home

2. Cinderella

3. Get Hard

4. Insurgent

5. Kingsman: The Secret Service

Weekend Box Office Results (Mar 13 – Mar 15)

I’m giving myself a pat on the back this week, for not only correctly predicting last week which movies would make the top 5, but for also nailing the number 1 and number 2 movies.

Cinderella dominated the box office this week pulling in a monstrous $70 million on 3,845 screen across the United States, averaging $18,219 per screen. It’s closest competitor at number 2 was Run All Night, making $11 million on 3,171 screen, averaging just $3,474 per screen.

Climbing from number 4 to number 3, and still holding on after 5 weeks is Kingsman: The Secret Service with $6.2 million. (If you haven’t seen this yet, why not? It’s a fun filled spy movie. Go see it!)

Dropping from 2 to 4 is the Will Smith movie, Focus, with $5.8 million. And rounding out the top 5 this week and looks to have fallen in to the free fall hole started by 50 Shades of Grey, is Chappie with $5.8 million.

This week will see the release of Insurgent, sequel to Divergent from the Divergent series of books, and The Gunman, a Sean Penn movie from the director of Taken.

Top 5 Predictions:

1. Cinderella

2. Insurgent

3. Kingsman

4. The Gunman

5. Run All Night

Weekend Box Office Results (Mar 6 – Mar 8)

New week, new release, new number 1. As predicted, the Neill Blomkamp directed Chappie came in number 1 this week pulling in $13.3 million. This pushed last weeks number 1, Focus starring Will Smith, to number 2, making $10 million with a total of $34.5 million.

At number 3 is the Fox Searchlight new release, The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel with $8.6 million. With a slight dip at number 4 but holding strong after four weeks is Kingsman: The Secret Service with $8.3 million. This puts Kingsman at $98 million domestic on an estimated $81 million budget. Worldwide, it is at $248.3 million which means there is a good possibility of a sequel.

Rounding out the top 5 is The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water making $7 million with a total of $148.9 million.

This week will see two new releases. Disney’s live action Cinderella and the Liam Neeson, Run All Night.

Top 5 Predictions:

1. Cinderella

2. Run All Night

3. Chappie

4. Focus

5. Kingsman
